Pink Sketchbook I

I’ve been trying to keep this sketchbook as a kind of diary, some life drawings of my classmates and doodles of my daily life, drawings of books I’m reading and things I’m currently interesed in. The mediums used are pencils, brush pens, crayons, willow charcoal, pens, acrylic paint and watercolor. Some drawings are concepts of a short film idea.

I’m kind of stressed because I constantly want to improve and improve so next year I’ll see if I’m able to apply to CalArts Character Animation program. I am reading Richard William’s The Animators Survival Kit (which is amazing and inspiring). His emphasis in knowing anatomy is absolutely justified and is what I must improve the most. Also my level of English is stressing me, I must do a TOEFL test and get a score of 80 to get into the program. Also there’s the fact that there aren’t any life drawing lessons here so it’ll be hard to find any nude models.

Thanks for watching! Any comments are welcome.

Recently, my dad gave me two new brush pens, and I have totally fell in love with them. They blend so easily and you can get just the right amount of ink, the page that shows many drawings was the result of me testing the brushes so they weren’t really serious, my favorite is the one in the center.

To do this drawing I started using Korean actor and model Nam Joo Hyuk as a reference and it ended up looking nothing like him.

Also I really liked the sketch I did with the red brush, even when it’s not perfect it has some kind of charm to me. I drew it at school, a friend of mine just fell asleep and I took the opportunity to do a more detailed sketch.

25 Minute sketch

Lately I have been doing a lot of research about animation, and I realized that one of the most important skills one should own to do 2d animation is knowing how to draw. So, to improve my drawing skills I have proposed drawing sketches in 25 minutes minimum. Here are some of the drawings I have done:

The purpose of this, as I mentioned before, is to polish my skills and learn new things. Until now I have only drawn faces, but I plan to draw complete poses.
